Winter Traverses of the Overland Track is more challenging however the views of snow-covered peaks provide the reward. Walking the Track will require you to carry and use snowshoes. The clothing and equipment required for this journey are similar to that used in the Alps, Nepal and Kilimanjaro. We are taking single or group participants to form a group of like-minded adventurers to traverse the Overland Track. Our group sizes begin with 4 Participants for a guaranteed departure and up to a maximum of 10 participants.
The Overland Track 10 day (7 days on the Track) day multi-day semi supported expedition with a food resupply at the conclusion of day 3. The walk requires the participant to carry a full pack weighing approximately 16-19 KGS. This commercial expedition is paced to allow for an average of 5-6 hours of walking per day.
Day 5 is scheduled for a rest day at Pelion Hut. Winter traverses can experience heavy snowfall making it arduous trekking/snowshoeing. In this event, we will chill out and relax around Pelion Hut allowing our bodies to recover. In the event that conditions are easier than expected, we have the opportunity to summit the 1286m ASL Mt Oakleigh (a 500m ascent from the hut) with excellent views of the Pelion Plains and Mt Ossa.
Commerical permits ensure campsite locations are guaranteed each night with no fighting for space in a lodge or campgrounds.
Please ensure you are in Launceston ready to board our bus by 9 am on the 30th July. Our first-night accommodation will be in Cradle Mountain to ensure we have a full days hiking on the 31st.
