Kokoda – Our Porters

Kokoda – Our Porters

Our Porters are from the Owers Corner, up to Ioribaiwa, and Buna. They have been hand selected to ensure the safety of trekkers and to provide the best service possible.

All Porters and Guides are paid above award wages and are either paid to return home or have the flight home covered (this depends on where they live and their personal preference). Our Porters camp site fees are covered by us and they are given their budgeted (ample) money to buy their own food they like for the trek, along with a uniform and their own first aid kit.

The wage rates vary and prominent roles such a head cook and guide are paid more along with lead/point man and assistant cook to ensure we have the best staff working for us.

These guys work hard and love what the do for a job!

Porter wages not only assist the porter, but also their extended family. This has a flow on affect as well, in their local community and the economy.

When I hire the services of a Personal Porter, what do I get?

  • carry the backpack of the trekker along the full distance of the track (backpack included in package).
  • assist the trekkers at the river & log crossings.
  • give personal assistance along the trek, especially where there are difficult areas and river crossings.
  • carry your tent, Put it up, and down again in the morning.

Group Porters are included in the package and are there to carry the food, cooking gear.

Head Cook & Assistant Cooks are responsible for the catering of the food and do an exceptional job. Serving up a variety of meals that are tasty, unexpected and something to look forward to.

Our Chief Cook will surprise and energise you…

Head & Lead Guides are responsible for the whole group. They lead the group at a medium pace, so that the trekkers stay together and get safely into camp.  Living along the Kokoda Track & having walked the track, some over 100 times, they are very experienced.

The Guides are First Aid Qualified carry the group medic kit, carry the Satellite Phone, radios, and satellite tracker.
